Bleeding Heart Pottery

Handmade with love in my garage on Nantucket

I’ve always had a passion for art and working with my hands. About six years ago, after many years of focusing my creative energy on portrait painting, I took my first pottery class. As I tend to do when I discover a new passion, I completely abandoned my former interest in painting and became obsessed with learning how to wheel throw. My pottery journey started while I was living in Asheville, North Carolina, taking wheel throwing classes at AB Tech and The Village Potters. When I moved back to my hometown of Nantucket in 2022, I knew that I wanted to make pottery a more permanent fixture in my life.

After taking a class at The Artist’s association on Nantucket, I decided to rent studio space there and become an assistant teacher. Within a few months, I started teaching my own classes and producing enough work to start selling. I now have my own studio space in the garage of the house that I grew up in. I’m 3 years into being a potter as a part time job. Knowing that hundreds of people have pieces of my art in their home brings me so much joy and contentment. I still love drawing and painting- but for the most part, I practice these skills on clay by free-hand carving images onto my work.

About me

Why Bleeding Heart?

Also known as Dicentra- it’s my favorite plant, and it has kind of a dramatic name, which is fun! Coming up with a brand name is hard.

Do you ship your work?

Absolutely! I understand that traveling from Nantucket with pottery can be a challenge. I am happy to ship anywhere within the continental United States.

Is your pottery microwave and dishwasher safe?

Yes. I put all of my pottery that I use on a daily basis in the dishwasher and microwave. For any pottery, handwashing is recommended for longevity… but who has time for that?
